06.11.08 - City's Next Mayor Will be First to be Elected by Residents
Seven candidates will face off in the contest to become Suffolk's first resident-elected mayor. Until now, the City Council has elected one of its own for the mayor's seat. But council members have decided to opt for a change, saying that the direct election will make the new mayor more responsive to the city's wide-ranging interests. Residents will have their first chance to vote for the mayor during the Nov. 4 election.
